The farm was acquired in the Cherokee Land Rush in 1893. They no longer milk but they are building up their beef herd which should produce a good income for them. It has been primarily a dairy farm over the years, one of the few in the area. My cousins Pete and Anita work the farm now. I believe it is what is commonly referred to as God’s Country, because He is the only one who knows how to get there. The nearest town is Amorita, population 37 (My cousin Pete says they must have included the dogs and cats in that). The reason for that might have more to do with geography than anything else as it is nestled near the Kansas border about 160 miles north of Oklahoma City. The Incident occurred on or about 1960 and I had not returned to Doherty Farm since it happened.
